According to the text, “After Media theorists began to realize that audiences were real people and therefore needed to be treated like human beings rather than statistics or abstract models, the ethnographic approach was developed. This meant that scientists would place themselves in a group of people to observe their behavior as a direct observation. This section discusses how ER is one of the most programs that is currently broadcast. In this category, there are five topics that fall into it which are energy, abundance, intensity, transparency, and community. Best defined in the chapter, energy is the speed of series of sharp, short items, the ‘latest’ news, handheld camera. Then, abundance is technology of newsgathering. Intensity is the emphasis on violence, dramatic incident, selection of visuals with eye to climactic moments. Next, the term transparency is the manner of some newscasters, celebrities and politicians. This section is all about the “little doubt that media texts affect audiences; what that effect is, and how it happens, is open to considerable doubt.” People tend to argue that individuals involve their emotions, or it's because of the social science of the whole concept. The author discusses several theories to this point. For instance, the mention of the effects debate was brought up and moral panics were introduced which coordinates with people’s emotions in a social situation. April 23 2021

In this last section of chapter 5, the author discusses the purpose of the actual viewing of videos on YouTube. For instance, there are many adults who prefer watching YouTube as a way of watching old films they used to watch growing up. This is a way for them to redeem their childhood and remember all the fun memories they had. The idea of YouTube to elderly people are memories that they can look back on for them to enjoy. Lastly, this can also be seen as motivation to video creators. If these individuals see people enjoying old clips, new video streamers may want to recreate them to get more viewers. This works because people love entertainment and especially if it is being recreated. In the text, it states “YouTube is a platform compounds the already significant methodological challenges of Web History.” By having old footage with additional always being added, this keeps YouTube in the business. Over the years, YouTube has not only localized, but globalized as well. For example, the text states “Content was customized for location, returning search results that were deemed more ‘relevant’ to the user based on their geographic location, as well as providing country-specific video rankings and comments.” More specifically, this allowed individuals to choose what to watch no matter where they were at in terms of location. In today’s world, technology has evolved drastically, with one of the advancements to be watching a channel in another state or country while it is being streamed. With such a great advantage to evolution, this allows for platforms such as YouTube to spread across the globe reaching over millions of people. According to the text, by 2017 there were now ninety different country versions of YouTube being pushed out. April 21 2021
YouTube is a platform that is a way for ordinary people to share their inspirations with the population. For instance, directly stated from Chapter five of YouTube’s Cultural Politics, it claims “the inclusiveness and openness of the YouTube promise that ‘anyone’ can participate is also fundamental to its distinctive commercial value proposition.” Furthermore, YouTube is a way for individuals to learn more about other’s cultures and the way they live life. In addition, “YouTube remains a potential enabler and amplifier of cosmopolitan cultural citizenship.” Meaning, that it’s a space for people to express their true identifies and views in the world and allow themselves to speak to others to inform. In the diversity and cultural citizenship section, the author emphasizes the importance of allowing people the ability to share their thoughts with others to enhance the intelligence of others and allow the world to be more well-rounded with the current events occurring recently. 4/21/2021 0 Comments Case Study 1 :Youtube chapter 5April 21 2021
